MUSIC 101 for DANCERS
What is the Music Telling You to Do?

Rebecca King will explain things all dancers should know about music! During this interactive workshop you will have the chance to move or listen to the the glorious variety in English Country Dance music. Rebecca will guide your ears towards timing, phrasing and more that will enhance your listening and dancing pleasure.

NOTE: This class is geared towards dancers and callers, but musicians are welcome to play along with Rebecca’s solo piano. All tunes will be provided.

What do those those musical terms mean? “Waltz time?” Well maybe that one is obvious but others aren’t. What exactly is a slip jig? How is it different than a tune in 3/2 time? Why does it matter? Even if you already know you will get to join into the fun and enjoy the great music!

Part of The Historical Tea & Dance Society's mission is to bring educational opportunities to dancers. We hope you will join us.)

* Rebecca King plays piano for contra and ECD. She has written several tunes for dancing which have been used by choreographers such as Gary Roodman, Sharon Green, and Orly Krasner. She is known for producing CDs for the reconstructions of Andrew Shaw. She records and performs throughout the country with the band Persons of Quality.

Our Friendship Fund* is available for this event. Please reach out if you or someone you know would like to attend and could benefit from our Fund. You may nominate or recommend someone for this fund as we know folks are sometimes shy to ask.

*The Historical Tea & Dance Society maintains a Friendship Fund policy for most of its events. Like a scholarship, the Friendship Fund allows for someone to attend the event who otherwise could not due to restricted finances. Recipients incur no obligation and all awards are kept private. Funds are raised by our members at large making donations or by various raffles and table sales throughout the year.
